Brief Review
What I did on my summer vacationSurviving and helping others learn from a boyhood of sexual abuseBy Paul M. Hambke with Martin C. Calder
|
Abusers have often used their power to suppress — and often silence — the voices of their victims. Paul’s book is part of an effort to try to restore a balance. It contains:
● A harrowing, first person account of the abuse suffered by the author from the ages of six to eighteen. It contains graphic language and illustrations that may be upsetting to some people. But all are purposeful – they represent the victim of abuse making sense of the abuse he endured, and sharing it with the aim of helping others.
● The account of his personal journey to come to terms with his abuse. Greatly assisted by art therapy, it offers unique opportunities for fellow survivors and those who work with them to see what can be learned about profoundly harmful abuse, preventing it, and charting a path to recovery if prevention fails. Martin Calder’s concluding chapter discusses questions that any professional should consider when using Paul’s book in such work.
There are more details in the attached PDF, and at our website www.russellhouse.co.uk.
If you want to obtain Paul’s book from us, but then decide that you don’t want to keep and share it, just send it back to us in clean and resalable condition, and you’ll owe nothing.
