Koala began his life as our SAS group mascot on Tuesday 10th March 2009.

We have been doing a lot of travelling for conferences and presentations representing the SAS.  Sue considered how all group members could still feel a part of the journeying even though staying in Shetland. So it was that whilst in Edinburgh for the SAS presentation to members of the Scottish Government Koala was born. Sue had him made and chose his clothes and even put in his beating heart.

As group mascot he is very special. A soft cuddly Koala, very endearing and cute. He wears a Harley Davidson jacket and shades to look cool and his camouflage boxers relate to our title ‘The SAS’.

He travels to different places when the SAS is being represented and has his photo taken for the site. Some famous people have met Koala and he has had his picture taken with them! He also comes to group meetings and members can hold him, hug him and laugh or cry with him.

You might be interested to hear that although cute and cuddly Koalas are also fiercly able to defend themselves when threatened, something as survivors we can all relate to. Sue has found a link that gives some really fascinating facts about Koalas and we think several of them are relevant to us as survivors!!!
