Run a Group

Decide on a Space to Meet

Step 1

SAS can happen at your Church, or at your home. If it is hosted at your Church, please let us know when and where you gather so we can upload and list your meeting on future website updates!

Announce It

Step 2

Ask your pastor to put the Short version in announcements at Masses/ Church services, or better yet, ask if you can show up at every Mass/ service to personally read the Long version. A modified Short version could be announced monthly preceding every meeting as a reminder to promote the group.

Short Version

A new support group called SAS is starting for women survivors of sexual abuse. It is an anonymous group for anyone who wants solidarity with other women in a safe space on their road to healing. The group meets monthly at (time) in (location).

Long Version

A new support group called SAS is starting for women who are survivors of sexual abuse. It is an anonymous group for anyone who wants solidarity with other women on their road to healing. According to the CDC, 1 in 4 women have been sexually abused.1 We are not alone. We believe our wounds can be transformed by the grace of God and through fellowship with other believers on the road to healing. SAS is a safe space for that to happen. All that is required is the courage to show up and the desire to heal. SAS believes in the promise of Jesus who said He came so that we might have an abundant life (John 10:10). Survivors are worthy of that life. The group will meet monthly at (time) in (location).

mEETING sCRIPT

Step 3

The structure of the meeting is simple - intentionally so. Don’t complicate it. Simplicity, structure, and repetition at each meeting serve to create a sense of safety, order and the almost ritual setting aside of “sacred time” for our sharing to happen.

Step 4

You’ll note that in the meeting script there is the time to share a testimony. Ideally the women in your group will be able to share their own testimonies in time. It is a huge accomplishment to do so, and extremely healing! Every woman who does feels like a huge load has been lifted by conquering this huge milestone. So work towards it! But in the meantime, feel free to use testimonies from Natalie and other survivors.
